Chalford

Village in Gloucestershire, England; population (2001) 6,300. It is situated on a hillside, 6 km/4 mi southeast of Stroud, and has steep and winding streets. The area was a centre for the manufacture of broadcloth in the 17th and 18th centuries; there are a number of mills and weavers' houses here dating from this period.
