sonata da camera

Instrumental work of the late 17th and early 18th centuries of the suite or partita (set of classical variations) type in several movements, mainly in dance forms, but always for more than one instrument, most usually two violins with continuo for bass viol or cello with a keyboard instrument, generally harpsichord. Unlike the sonata da chiesa, the sonata da camera usually had a quick first movement.
