Chambord, Henri Charles Dieudonné, comte de Chambord

    0.06 sec.

Chambord, Henri Charles Dieudonné, comte de Chambord (1820-1883)

French Bourbon claimant to the throne, known to his supporters as ‘Henry V’. He was the grandson of Charles X of France, who abdicated in his favour in 1830, but popular support for Louis Philippe forced Charles and his grandson to flee to England. Chambord made a serious bid for the throne in 1870, but his intransigence alienated moderates, and a Republic was formally adopted in 1875.
