Champney, Benjamin

Champney, Benjamin (1817–1907)

US painter. He worked as a lithographer in Boston, Massachusetts andbecame a portraitist in 1841.He painted landscapes, such as Picnic on Artist's Ledge Overlooking Conway Meadows, New Hampshire (1874).

He was born in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. He travelled to Europe in 1841 and 1846–48, and exhibited panoramas in Boston and New York 1848–50. He wintered in Massachusetts and spent summers in North Conway, New Hampshire.
