Chance, Michael (1955- )

English counter-tenor. After studying at Cambridge he sang with the Monteverdi Choir in New York and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (in Messiah). His opera roles include Apollo in Cavalli's Giasone (which he sang at Buxton in 1983), Andronico in Handel's Tamerlano at Lyon, and Julius Caesar for the Scottish Opera. He sang Apollo in Death in Venice at Glyndebourne in 1988, and returned 1994-95 as Orpheus in the premiere production of Birtwistle's The Second Mrs Kong.
