Chandler, Happy (Albert Benjamin) (1898-1991)

US politician and sports administrator. He was governor of Kentucky 1934-39 and 1955-59. After his first term as governor he resigned to enter the US Senate. In 1945 Chandler was appointed baseball commissioner but resigned 1951, mainly because of personality conflicts with several team owners.

Born in Corydon, Kentucky, USA, Chandler studied law at the University of Kentucky and was admitted to the bar 1924 before serving in the state legislature.
