Channel Country

Area of southwestern Queensland, Australia, in which channels such as Cooper's Creek (where explorers Robert Burke and William Wills died 1861) are cut by intermittent rivers. Summer rains supply rich grass for cattle, and there are the ‘beef roads’, down which herds are taken in linked trucks for slaughter.
