Chapí y Lorente, Ruperto (1851–1909)

Spanish composer. He studied at the Madrid Conservatory and in 1872 was given a musical post in the artillery. He lived in Rome for a time from 1873.

operas Margarita la Tornera (1909), La serenata, Roger de Flor, Circe and four others, 155 zarzuelas; oratorio Los Angeles, Veni Creator for double chorus and orchestra; symphony in D minor, Moorish fantasy La corte de Granada, legend Los gnomos de la Alhambra and other orchestral works; Jota for violin and orchestra; four string quartets, piano trio; piano pieces; songs.
