Chapman, Frederick Spencer (1907-1971)

British explorer, mountaineer, and writer who explored Greenland, the Himalayas, and Malaysia. He accompanied Gino Watkins on the British Arctic Air Routes Expedition 1930-31, recalled in Northern Lights 1932, and in 1935 he joined a climbing expedition to the Himalayas. For two years he participated in a government mission to Tibet described in Lhasa, the Holy City 1938, before setting out to climb the 7,315-m/24,000-ft peak Chomollari.
