Chapman, Frederick Spencer (1907–1971)

British explorer, mountaineer, and writer who explored Greenland, the Himalayas, and Malaysia. He accompanied Gino Watkins on the British Arctic Air Routes Expedition 1930–31, recalled in Northern Lights 1932, and in 1935 he joined a climbing expedition to the Himalayas. For two years he participated in a government mission to Tibet described in Lhasa, the Holy City 1938, before setting out to climb the 7,315-m/24,000-ft peak Chomollari.
