Chappell, Warren (1904–1991)

US typographer, book illustrator, and graphic artist. As graphic artist and book illustrator he illustrated many classic texts. As a typographer and book designer, he designed two admired typefaces, Lydian and Trajanus. He wrote several books on typography.

He was born in Richmond, Virginia. After studying at the Art Students League in New York, he set up a studio there in 1932. He ended his career as artist in residence at the University of Richmond, his alma mater.
