Charles City County

County in southeastern Virginia, USA; area 469 sq km/181 sq mi; population (1990) 6,300. Charles City is the seat. The county is rural, largely undeveloped, and still heavily forested. Bordering the James River (to the south) are a number of noted 18th- and 19th-century plantations, among them Westover, Shirley, Evelynton, and Berkeley.
