Holly, Buddy (1936–1959)

US rock and roll singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He had a distinctive, hiccuping vocal style and was an early experimenter with recording techniques. Many of his hits with his band, the Crickets, such as ‘That'll Be the Day’ (1957), ‘Peggy Sue’ (1957), and ‘Maybe Baby’ (1958), have become classics. His albums include The Chirping Crickets (1958) and Buddy Holly (1958).

He died in a plane crash together with fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and J P Richardson (the ‘Big Bopper’).
