Charny

City in Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière census division, southern Québec, Canada, near the mouth of the River Chaudière on the St Lawrence River, 11 km/7 mi south-southwest of Québec City; population (1991) 10,200. For many years a rail junction, it is now a growing suburb of the capital.

The falls of the Chaudière here are 35 m/115 ft high.

After listening to Joel Charny, vice president of policy and expert on human rights in Darfur from Refugees International, many people came up to me enthusiastically wanting to help.
Charny notes that Iran, which still hosts two and a half million Afghan refugees, has prepared refugee camps along the Iran-Iraq frontier which could house about 200,000 people, but feels it cannot accommodate more than that.
Charny says the most important thing is that Hun Sen has struggled to rebuild the country and shows little evidence of Khmer Rouge-like brutality.
