Chatham County

County in eastern Georgia, USA; area 1,147 sq km/443 sq mi; population (1990) 216,900. The county is bounded to the north by the Savannah River and South Carolina, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Ogeechee River. Its seat and industrial centre is Savannah. It includes Tybee, Ossabaw, Wassaw, and Skidaway islands.
