Chauncey, Isaac

Chauncey, Isaac (1772-1840)

US naval officer. He commanded the naval forces on Lakes Ontario and Erie during the War of 1812 against Britain. He commanded the Mediterranean squadron (1816-18) and later held important administrative posts within the navy.

He was born in Black Rock, Connecticut.
