Cheadle (Greater Manchester)

    0.03 sec.

Cheadle

Residential area in Greater Manchester, England; population (2001) 10,800. The area, situated south of the River Mersey, has developed around several villages which have now become local shopping centres. The name of the area derives from St Chad, to whom the Anglo-Saxons may have dedicated a cross by the River Mersey near here.
