Cheektowaga

Town in Erie County, western New York, USA, on the Ellicott, Scajaquada, and Cayuga creeks, just east of Buffalo; population (2000) 94,000. Part of the New York State Thruway, extensive rail yards, and Greater Buffalo International Airport are within the town limits.

Originally part of the Holland Land Purchase and the town of Amherst, Cheektowaga was settled in 1809. The Iroquoian name means ‘land of the crabapple’. This suburban town's greatest period of development came after World War II.
