Cheilanthes

Genus of about 180 species of small ferns in the family Polypodiaceae. Their fronds are often curved and have small hairs that help to conserve water, since these ferns are usually found in dry, rocky places. Five species are native to Europe, and C. pteridioides will grow in Britain under sheltered conditions.
