Royal Society of Chemistry

Society formed in the UK in 1980, merging the Chemical Society (founded in 1841) and the Royal Institute of Chemistry (founded in 1877). The society's object, as stated in its royal charter, is the general advancement of chemical science and its applications, serving to that end as a learned society, a professional body, and a representative body. It also acts as a publisher of books and scientific journals. It is recognized in the UK and internationally as an authoritative voice of chemistry and chemists.
