Chestertown

Town in northeastern Maryland, USA, on the Chester River and the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay, 48 km/30 mi east-southeast of Baltimore; seat of Kent County; population (1990) 4,000. It is the market centre for an agricultural and resort region. Local produce includes tomatoes, corn, wheat, other vegetables, and fish. Manufactures include fireworks, munitions, hosiery, and chemicals.

Chestertown was laid out in 1706. Washington College (1782) is here.
