Chevron

Trade name under which the petrol stations of the Standard Oil Company of California operate in many countries, including the UK. In 2000, Chevron announced it would buy Texaco in a $37 billion stock deal. The new company, to be named Chevron Texaco, will be the world's fourth largest energy company.

In architecture, a decoration introduced into England in the 11th century consisting of a moulding with a zigzag outline, examples of which are to be found in Canterbury and Durham cathedrals. It is a common decoration in southern Arabia. It is also used in the cloisters of Monreale, near Palermo, in those of St Paul, outside Rome, and in many German churches. A very early example is the tomb of Agamemnon, at Mycenae.
