Chibcha

Member of an American Indian people of Colombia, whose high chiefdom was conquered by the Spanish in 1538. Their practice of covering their chief with gold dust, during rituals, fostered the legend of the ‘Lost City’ of El Dorado (the Golden Man), which was responsible for many failed expeditions into the interior of the continent.
