Chief Dan George

Chief Dan George (1899–1981)

Salish chief, actor, and writer. He first became known when he played Dustin Hoffman's American Indian grandfather in Arthur Penn's film Little Big Man (1970), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He also played the Old Sioux in the epic TV miniseries ‘Centennial’ (1978) and Clint Eastwood's travelling companion in The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976). His books include My Heart Soars and My Spirit Soars.
