Child, William

Child, William (c. 1606–1697)

English composer and organist. He was educated at Bristol Cathedral and was appointed one of the organists at St George's Chapel, Windsor, in 1632. At the Restoration he received a court appointment and in 1663 received a PhD from Oxford University.

Church music

about 25 services, about 50 anthems, motet O bone Jesu, 20 psalms for three voices with continuo, chants, Magnificat, ‘in Gamut’, Te Deum and Jubilate and other church music.

Other

secular vocal pieces, catches and ayres; two suites of dances for viols.
