Chilliwack

District municipality in Fraser-Cheam Regional District, southwestern British Columbia, Canada, in the Fraser River Valley, near the mouth of the Chilliwack River, 16 km/10 mi north of the Washington border and 89 km/55 mi east of Vancouver; population (1991) 49,600. The trade centre for a dairying, farming, and lumbering area, it processes fruits and vegetables, and is an expanding residential community.

Developed after the discovery (1858) of gold on the Fraser River, it was incorporated as a city in 1908. A Canadian Forces Base (Vedder Crossing) and the Cultus Lake recreational area are nearby to the south.
