Town in western Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, southeastern Massachusetts, USA; population (1998 est) 810. In a rural, hilly part of the Vineyard with many summer homes, Chilmark includes the fishing village of Menemsha and the island of Nomans Land, which was a naval bombing range and is now a National Wildlife refuge closed to visitors.
