Chimney Rock

Name of two geological features that form notable landmarks in the USA. In Nebraska, the eroded red sandstone pinnacle of Chimney Rock rises 153 m/500 ft above the North Platte River and the surrounding prairie; it was an important orientation point on the Oregon Trail and is now the centrepiece of the Chimney Rock National Historic Site. Chimney Rock in North Carolina is a 96 m/315 ft-tall stack on the Rocky Broad River that was formerly a sacred site of the Cherokee people, and is now a popular tourist attraction.
