Chin, Unsuk (1961– )

South Korean composer. Her work is modern, featuring both electronic and acoustic scores, and reveals her exceptional ear for instrumentation. She is best known for her works Acrostic-Wordplay (1991–93) for soprano and ensemble, and her 2001 Violin Concerto, for which she was awarded the prestigious Grawemeyer Award for composition in 2004.

She became the composer in residence for the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester in Berlin, Germany, in 2001.

She was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Germany in 1985 to study in Hamburg with Hungarian-born Austrian composer György Ligeti.
