Chinese block
| Percussion instrument in the shape of a hollow wooden box. It produces a dry, rapping sound when struck. Whilst the sound is predominantly percussive, temple blocks do have approximate pitches, and in orchestral use often appear in groups of four or five different pitches, usually tuned to the pentatonic scale. |
