Choate, Joseph H (Hodges) (1832–1917)

US lawyer and diplomat. He argued landmark antitrust, libel, admiralty, and income tax cases over a 55-year legal career. He achieved major success as ambassador to Great Britain 1899–1905, and as a leader at the Second Hague Conference in 1907.

He was born in Salem, Massachusetts. He was president of many clubs and cultural organizations in New York.
