According to the OED, "the reason for the fruit being so named is not specified by Osbeck and is obscure: comparison of the fruit's colour with the yellow silk robes of mandarins has been suggested, although since Osbeck comments that the mandarin is the better kind of Chinese orange the alternative explanation that the name carries connotations of choiceness is perh. He looks more toned than fat on the album cover and from the choiceness of his lyrics he is not a man to take the mickey out of. The main weakness of such work, when it is not simply inane, is that its force derives far more from loud noise and large scale than from the choiceness of the images or the manner in which they are used. |
