Christian VII (1749–1808)

King of Denmark 1766–84. Mentally unstable, he was dominated by his ministers Johann Bernstorff and Johann Struensee. After 1784 his son Frederick, later Frederick VI, ruled as regent.

Christian VII was the son of Frederick V and Louise, daughter of George II of Great Britain. He married Caroline Matilda, sister of George III, but divorced her after she was accused of committing adultery with Struensee.
