Christmas truce

In World War I, unofficial cessation of hostilities between British and German troops in the front lines on Christmas Day 1914.

Soldiers of both sides emerged from their trenches and fraternized in ‘No Man's Land’, exchanging food and drinks, playing football, and singing carols. They then returned to their trenches but no shots were exchanged for the rest of the day.
