Christophers, Harry

Christophers, Harry (1953– )

English conductor and choral director. He studied at Oxford and founded the choral group The Sixteen in 1977; he has made many tours of Europe, the Far East, and North and South America with the Messiah, Bach's Passions, and Christmas Oratorio. He led The Sixteen in the premiere of Birtwistle's Gawain at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in1991, and made a world tour with Messiah in 1992. His recordings include Taverner's Festal Mass series, Monteverdi's Vespers, Byrd's Mass for four voices, The Fairy Queen, and the oratorio Alexander's Feast by Handel.
