In medicine, one of several related, usually irreversible, diseases of the lung, including emphysema and chronic obstructive bronchitis. The main symptoms are coughing, wheezing, and breathing difficulties and the primary cause is smoking.

There were 105,000 deaths from COPDs in the USA in 1996.
