golden mole

Mole, family Chrysochloridae, order Insectivora, found in central and southern Africa, with soft thick fur, covered eyes, and ears with no pinna (external flap). There are four digits on the forepaws. The Cape golden mole, Chrysochloris capensis, has velvety fur of metallic golden or even greenish lustre. It burrows underground and feeds on insects and worms. There are 7 genera with 18 species.
