Chrysomelidae

Very large family of beetles, numbering about 26,000 species. Colour patterns vary with species, but generally the adults are yellow with black markings. Both adults and larvae feed on leaves, though larvae of some species attack the roots of certain crops. The best-known member of this family is the Colorado beetle, which is one of the largest representatives.

Subfamilies include Sagrinae, which are brilliantly coloured tropical beetles, and Donaciinae, which are generally elongate beetles with a metallic sheen and have aquatic immature stages.

Classification

Chrysomelidae is in order Coleoptera, class Insecta, phylum Arthropoda.
