Chubu

Mountainous coastal region of central Honshu island, Japan, area 66,774 sq km/25,781 sq mi; population (2000 est) 21,627,000. The chief city is Nagoya. The region, which produces tea, fruits, and fish, contains the Niigata plain, one of the country's largest rice-producing areas. Mount Fuji and several of Japan's longest rivers can also be found in the region.
