Chung, Kyung-Wha (1948– )

Korean violinist. She moved to the USA in 1961 and in 1967 shared first prize in the Leventritt Competition. In 1968 she played as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1970 made her European debut with the London Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared at the Salzburg, Vienna, and Edinburgh Festivals, and made concerto recordings of Beethoven, Stravinsky, Bartók, and Tchaikovsky. Her sister, Myung-Wha (1944– ), is a cellist who made her orchestral debut in 1957 and studied at Juilliard. She has played in many concerts and chamber music tours of Europe and the USA from 1971, including recitals with the Chung Trio.
