The family held sizable or controlling interests in some of the largest mines in the world, including Bingham Canyon, Utah; Braden and Chuquicamata, Chile; Kennecott, Alaska; Ray and Chino, Arizona; and Ely, Nevada. CODELCO, the world's largest copper producer, will spend US$67 million to upgrade its Chuquicamata copper mining plant in northern Chile. This shareholder support is in addition to that demonstrated in mid-2004 when Codelco accepted to temporarily revision of the tariffs to its Chuquicamata PPA in order to share the burden of the Argentinean gas crisis with its energy provider, Electroandina. |
