Church, Charlotte Maria Reed (1986– )

Welsh singer and television presenter. As a child she gained wide attention for her rich soprano voice. She became popular for her arias and religious songs on albums such as her debut Voice of an Angel (1998), which made her the youngest-ever artist to top the British Classical charts. The Charlotte Church Show, a comedy series, made its debut on Channel 4 in 2006.

Her self-titled second album (1999) featured the single ‘Just Wave Hello’, which was popularized by an advertisement for the Ford Motor Company. Other albums include Dream a Dream (2000), comprising mostly Christmas carols, the pop-influenced Enchantment (2001), and Tissues and Issues (2005), her first true pop album. She also performed the song ‘All Love Can Be’ for the Academy Award-winning drama A Beautiful Mind (2001). The Charlotte Church Show, features Church as host with guest celebrities as well as a variety of other segments, including comedy sketches, camera stunts, and audience interaction.

Church was born and grew up in Cardiff. Her first major performance was Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem version of ‘Pie Jesu’ on the British game show Talking Telephone Numbers in 1997. She followed with an appearance on ITV's Big, Big Talent Show in 1998. She opened for Shirley Bassey in Antwerp, Belgium, and has performed at Cardiff Arms Park in Wales and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
