Church Stretton

Market town and resort in Shropshire, England; population (2001) 4,200. It is situated 20 km/12 mi south of Shrewsbury, and lies 213 m/699 ft up on the moorland slopes of the Long Mynd (518 m/1,700 ft). There is a golf course here. Much of the parish church of St Lawrence is Norman.

The National Trust owns 2,368 ha/5,849 acres of upland heath on the Long Mynd, including the Carding Mill Valley. Among the many ancient sites here is an Iron Age camp on Bodbury Hill.
