Naas

County town of County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, 32 km/20 mi southwest of Dublin; population (2002) 18,300. The town has agricultural vehicle manufacturers and distribution industries. Naas was the ancient seat of the kings of Leinster. The 17th-century Jigginstown House, 2 km/1 mi to the south, is one of the earliest brick buildings in Ireland.

There is a racecourse at Naas, and Punchestown racecourse, used for steeplechasing, is 5 km/3 mi to the southwest.

The North Mote in Naas is said to be the site of one of the strongholds of the kings of Leinster. Jigginstown House was built for the Earl of Strafford but was never completed.
