sweet cicely

Plant belonging to the carrot family, native to southern Europe; the root is eaten as a vegetable, and the aniseed-flavoured leaves are used in salads. (Myrrhis odorata, family Umbelliferae.)

Also, any of several North American plants belonging to the same family with clusters of small white flowers. (Genus Osmorhiza.)
