At the service in Ciego de Avila a representative from the city council was present, as well as two persons from the "ideological" section of the provincial Communist Party. Civil Defense officials warned residents to expect mudslides and coastal flooding in the eastern part of the island up to Cayo Coco, a small island popular with tourists north of Ciego de Avila in central Cuba, and urged them to avoid the streets.
