Ciesinski, Katherine (1950– )

US mezzo-soprano, sister of Kristine Ciesinski. She studied at the Curtis Institute and sang in Europe from 1976. Her US debut was at Santa Fe in 1979, as Geschwitz in the first US performance of the three-act version of Berg's Lulu. She also sang in the first performance of Argento's The Aspern Papers at Houston and made her Metropolitan Opera House debut, as Nicklausse, in 1988. Her other roles include Cassandre for the Scottish Opera (a role she also performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London), Judith, Brangaene, Laura, and Leonore in the French version of La Favorite. She is a versatile singing actress.
