Cilèa, Francesco (1866–1950)

Italian composer. He produced his first opera in 1889, while still a student at Naples Conservatory. The publisher Sonzogno then commissioned a second, which was produced at Florence in 1892. Cilea was professor at the Reale Istituto Musicale, Florence, 1896–1904.

Gina (1889), La tilda (1892), L'Arlesiana (after Daudet; 1897), Adriana Lecouvreur (after Scribe; 1902), Gloria (1907).

Chamber

cello and piano sonata; numerous piano works.
