Cillario, Carlo Felice (1915- )

Argentine conductor. He studied in Bologna and founded a chamber orchestra there in 1946. In 1961 he made his Chicago Opera and Glyndebourne debuts, with Forza del Destino/The Force of Destiny and L'elisir d'amore/The Elixir of Love. He conducted Tosca at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1964 and La sonnambula/The Sleepwalker at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1972. He led the Royal Opera in Stockholm from 1980, and conducted Il fanatico Burlato by Cimarosa at Drottningholm in 1982. He was principal guest conductor and music consultant to the Australian Opera from 1988.
