Civic Forum

Czech democratic movement, formed in November 1989, led by Václav Havel. In December 1989 it participated in forming a coalition government after the collapse of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. The party began to splinter during 1991: from it emerged the right-of-centre Civic Democratic Party, led by Václav Klaus, the social-democratic Civic Movement, led by Jiri Dienstbier, and the centre-right Civic Democratic Alliance (CDA).

Its Slovak counterpart was Public Against Violence (Verejnost Proti Násil'u), which also broke up in 1991.
