Civil, Alan (1929-1989)

English horn player. He studied with Aubrey Brain, and was principal horn with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 1952-55, co-principal, with Dennis Brain, of the Philharmonia Orchestra 1955-57, and principal 1957-66. In 1966 he became principal horn of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Royal College of Music, London.
